Futret: Gay Deer World Takeover EP Review
Okay. A friend of mine rec I check out this EP out for a new review and I heard it and….okay.
Futret, from what I can pick up on, is a electric music producer and I seen an album from him GABBERSTAG a while back, but didn’t think anything of it. Before I get into this review, the title itself kinda threw me off because is it talking about a gay deer? Are there gay deers? Is there some gay deer cult ready to take over our world and this is a battle cry? I dunno.
Its a attractive name. Odd kinda.
Now, the first track on this 6 track project is called (More then) Deer to Me, a very underwhelming starter track. It was very low and the singing was lacklustre and coulda been better. I’m no Whitney Hoston, but I think it coulda been better. If not, someone else coulda really tear that song a new bunghole. But it felt like it was a poor start. Then the project named track Gay Deer World Takeover was WAY better then the starter. It was very loud, colorful sounding, and festive. I thought it woulda went into an annoying loop, but no. It had progression and it sounded great. If anything, it way my most favored track out of the entire EP. I kinda makes me think of a epic Mario or Kirby video game. Or at least the final boss fight.
Sadly, the rest of the tracks sounded just like that. THE SAME.
Stag Night also had that video game soundtrack feel with a rather off putting and somewhat annoying chant “At the gay bar!”. Not too be rude but this track was rather dull. It felt like a filler track, as in, just to be one the CD to take the room. It wasn’t as hype but still sounded the same to everything else on here. While Conte Hit & Run had an Miami dance club feel because the groove and or snyth ride sounded like it was made for a dance club by the coast. I myself couldn’t help but feeling like popping some molly, tear off my shirt and grind my gear on the first chick I see twerking and rattling like the truck system of a inner city hoodlum’s ‘83 Cadillac. It was addicting. It had a rad feel. But it seem find smothered, seeing how the other tracks sound too much alike and don’t change for anything more. Downside: they were a little too busy and messy.
Drop It Like Your Mother Got Shot. Sounds just like the rest of the EP. Although this one is decked the f**k out with samples from Snoop Dogg and Pussy Cat Dolls. It had alotta difference from the rest of the EP and flips flops. Has its lows and highs where samples pop up like Pokemon in tall grass.
The last track is Big Biscotti Bucks…I have to say. I really hated this track. This was the drop for the EP. It was very disappointing. The ‘gay’ rapping is kinda funny with the stereotypical lisping, but the beat was very weak for this busy and festive project. It sounded like stuff from Soulja Boy’s first album kinda beat. Like ya know its FL Studio made. Does Futret use FL? Dunno. And the hook was kinda uncomfortable for me because it talks about queer deers and such? But then again, what do ya think of a CD called GAY DEER? Anyway, this track is the only one that truly sucked for me.
So what do I think? This was a very different but an okay listen.
It has it’s flaws, like every CD does but it still was very well done for only 6 tracks. Maybe I’d like it more if the electric elements were experimented with more to a point where the CD is longer so the extra tracks could progress and maybe stray away and give the whole thing more variety and more depth. A little more bang for ya buck instead of a buck getting f**k by another buck. Is this guy gay or was it a joke or…?
Fav. Track: Gay Deer World Takeover
Least Fav: Bis Biscotti Bucks
